Diocese of Down & Dromore
About Diocese of Down & Dromore:
The Diocese of Down and Dromore, one of twelve Church of Ireland dioceses on the island of Ireland, has at the core of its vision the Great Commandment to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to love our neighbour as we love ourselves, alongside the Great Commission to make new disciples of Jesus.
Down and Dromore contains some 77 parochial units, all of which are registered charities, where clergy and lay people minister to their congregations. The vast proportion of the running costs of these parishes, and the costs of the diocese, are met through voluntary donations made by members of local churches.
Down and Dromore covers the geographic area of County Down plus a small portion of County Antrim eg Portadown to the east of the river Bann. East and part of South Belfast are also in Down and Dromore Diocese. In addition to its parochial units the Diocese of Down and Dromore has embarked upon a church planting initiative. New communities of church are being established in different parts of the Diocese to reach those who are unchurched and de churched and who have lost contact with traditional models of church. These new expressions of church may be lead by clergy or by appropriately trained lay people. Other initiatives of the Diocese include partnering with other denominations in a chaplaincy to the Titanic Quarter, the training and equipping of leaders for ministry in every aspect of Church life, equipping and training men and women as Diocesan Evangelists, raising up a new generation of young adults to follow Christ wholeheartedly, learning from the worldwide church new strategies for mission in today's world and leaning into all that enables churches to grow in health, to grow numerically and to reflect her Lord Jesus Christ who was and is full of truth and grace.
The spiritual focal point of the Diocese is its two cathedrals in Dromore and Downpatrick (site of the grave of St Patrick). It also has a presence in the Cathedral Church of St Anne Belfast. The work of preaching, teaching and evangelism throughout the Diocese is supported by the Bishop of Down and Dromore, his part time ordained assistants (the archdeacons) and a small team of specialist officers - Children's ministry officer, Youth Ministry Officer, Parish Development Officer and Communications Officer. These are all based in Church of Ireland House, Donegal Street Belfast, in a building shared with the Bishop and staff of the adjacent Diocese of Connor, and with a small number of Church of Ireland staff who have an all-Ireland remit. As a synodical church the work of the Diocese is also supported by a number of elected Boards and Committees.
Following a major restructuring which is resulting in financial and administrative management being integrated with the diocesan mission all under the direction of the bishop, the Diocese is now seeking applications for a number of senior positions within the Diocesan administrative team.
