Diocesan Office of Connor

About Diocesan Office of Connor:

The Diocese of Connor, one of 12 Church of Ireland Diocese on the island of Ireland has as it vision what Jesus asked his followers to do - love God, love one another and to love our neighbour.

Connor contains some 75 parochial units, all of which are registered charities, where clergy and lay people offer ministry and service.. The vast proportion of the running costs of these parishes, and the costs of the diocese, are met through voluntary donations made by members of local churches.

Connor covers the geographic area of County Antrim plus a small portion of County Down near Lisburn and a small portion of County Londonderry at Portstewart. North, West and most of South Belfast are in Connor Diocese. In addition to the parochial units, Connor has chaplaincy services to the Belfast, Jordanstown and Coleraine Campuses of the Ulster University, to Queens and Stranmillis and to the Royal, City, Musgrave Park and Mater Hospitals plus those in the provincial towns and cities in County Antrim. Recent initiatives include a Centre of Mission in the Shankill Road area where 2 diocesan evangelists are working on new expressions of church, alongside the traditional parishes in that area.

There are two Cathedrals in the Diocese, Lisburn Cathedral and Saint Anne’s Belfast.

In recent years the Diocese has formulated  a strategy entitled CONNECTIONS with three strands - Effecting Change: Engaging Culture: Empowering Ministry. This has led to a number of new initiatives particularly seeking to connect parishes with local communities.

The work of oversight  throughout the Diocese is offered by the Bishop of Connor and he is supported by three Archdeacons and a small team of specialist officers - children ministry, youth ministry, parish development and communications. The bishop is based in Church of Ireland House, Donegal Street Belfast in a building shared with the Bishop and staff of the adjacent Diocese of Down and Dromore and with a small number of Church of Ireland staff  that have an all Ireland remit. The work of the Diocese is also supported by a number of elected boards and committees.

Following a major restructuring, which is resulting in financial and administrative management being integrated with the diocesan mission all under the direction of the bishop the Diocese is now seeking applications for a number of senior positions within the Diocesan administrative team.
