Main Purpose of the Job: The post holder will be responsible for a helping and supporting people with disabilities to move into and sustain paid employment. They will support employers to make reasonable adjustments and / or take positive action measures to recruit people with disabilities.
Reporting Arrangements & Management Responsibility: The Employment & Training Officer will be responsible to and report to the Workable Team Leader.
Key duties and responsibilities: Major responsibilities will include the following:-
1 To provide a specialist package of support to disabled employees on Workable NI.
2 To provide support to placement providers.
3 To provide individualised and small group support to people with disabilities to help remove barriers to employment.
4 To provide a range of disability and equality training to employers and awareness of the Workable programme to others.
5 To produce action plans and regular reviews for individuals and work towards agreed outcomes.
6 To support people with disabilities to achieve equity and inclusion in employment.
7 To establish and maintain networks in relation to the work and development of the Service.
8 To provide advice and assistance in claiming appropriate benefits for service users.
9 To establish and maintain accurate recording systems in relation to participants being supported and to prepare monthly and other reports as required.
10 To work collaboratively with other staff within Our client who may provide technical advice and support to the Service.
11 To keep up-to-date with new developments within the field of employment which may have an impact on Our client 's programmes.
12 To adhere to agreed corporate quality standards.
13 To undertake any other duties as may be required from time to time by Our client in line with the status of the post.

Background to the Employment & Training Services Unit
The Employment & Training Services Unit offers a range of services to support people with disabilities to participate in mainstream training, to access employment, and to achieve career progression. Current programmes within the Unit include the following: -
(a) Employment Support
Employment Support offers people with disabilities the opportunity of working along-side non-disabled colleagues in a full range of jobs in ordinary industrial and commercial settings. The programme is closed to new referrals but continues to support disabled employees in the Greater Belfast area.
(b) Training Support Service
The Training Support Service assists individuals with disabilities, who are on the mainstream Training for Success, by supporting them regularly during their training. This includes contact with the trainees in their training and work placement environments. This also includes a dedicated Learning Support role delivered on a one-to-one and small group basis.
(c) Workable (NI)
Workable (NI) is a Department for Communities (DFC) Disability Employment Service (DES) programme providing flexible and individual support to meet the needs of disabled employees and their employers in a wide variety of jobs. Our client operates the programme across Northern Ireland.
(d) Employment Advocacy
A peer advocacy project which focuses on the employment needs of people with disabilities who may be experiencing discrimination or difficulties in the workplace. It provides advice, information and advocacy support to people with disabilities in employment. It also supports employers to promote positive practice in the recruitment and retention of disabled workers.
(e) Job Match Project
The Job Match project is a partnership between Our client and the Department for Communities (DFC) and the Northern Ireland Union of Support Employment (NIUSE). It uses a Supported Employment approach to help achieve one of the key targets within the DES 'Employment and Skills Strategy for People with Disabilities'. People with disabilities across Northern Ireland can access a tailored job brokerage service offering mentoring, job search and one-to-one intensive support to find sustainable, paid employment. Job Match is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Department for Communities (DFC).
While ETS staff are allocated to specific programmes within the Unit on appointment, they may be called upon to undertake duties across the range of programmes listed above and any new programmes which are developed within the Unit.
Initially the Employment & Training Officer posts will be required to work on the Workable NI programme.
