Please note that this is a part time vacancy - 8 hours per week.
Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and numbers are set to rise to over 1 million by 2025.
We are looking for an individual to support the Foyle Community Support Service. At Alzheimer’s Society, we touch the lives of over 30,000 people every week. We do this by providing practical services and support for people with dementia and their carers – and we are now looking for an experienced care worker with the expertise to support people in their own homes and contribute to achieving our vision of a world without dementia.
This is a role of considerable variety and influence. You will provide both practical care and emotional support to your own caseload of clients, tailoring everything you do to the reasonable wishes of the person with dementia and their carers. In addition to developing individual care plans, for example, you will engage clients in a range of stimulating activities, help them with domestic tasks and explore ways to maintain their life skills and fulfil their potential. We will also rely on you to conduct risk assessments and submit reports after each visit, and – as part of our wider local team - you will attend staff meetings, training sessions and case reviews where appropriate.
To meet these challenges, you must have an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care. Professional or personal experience in a care environment is essential, and your good understanding of dementia and the needs of people affected by it will be supported by knowledge of relevant legislation. You will certainly know how to evaluate and assess individual needs, and you must be able to work flexible hours and travel independently within the service area. Add to that your empathy and excellent communication skills and you will quickly establish yourself as a vital member of our team.
The Alzheimer’s Society wants to support everyone affected by dementia. We recognise that there is an underrepresentation of male support workers in this area, and would therefore particularly encourage male applicants to apply.
The Community Support Service covers the Foyle area and candidates must be willing to travel within the service area.
Alzheimer’s Society is committed to equal opportunities.
