Kennedy Recruitment are working in connection with their Public Sector client to recruit a temporary Band 3 Health Protection Officer to be based in Belfast. This is a full time role, and it's expected to last initially up to 8 weeks, but may be extended. The following duties will be required -
*Act as first point of contact for Health Professionals in Northern Ireland reporting outbreaks of infectious, notifiable and sexual diseases and health protection and vaccination queries.
*Record and process highly sensitive and confidential caller information accurately and communicate to this to appropriate professionals for action.
*Accurately maintain the various regional electronic information systems, in particular CoSurv and HPZone.
*Interrogate databases and information systems on a planned and ad-hoc basis as required to produce information to assist the Duty Officer and other Health Professionals.
*Take immediate action on critical reports and liaise appropriately with Environmental Health Officers, Hospital medical staff, GP's and Health Visitors to assist in providing a co-ordinated response to incidents.
*Be responsible for collating and processing of data in support of communicable disease surveillance of infection and investigation activities.
*Be responsible for producing weekly surveillance reports and activity within the Duty Room.
*Manage administrative work tasks in a timely and efficient manner and ensure work is prioritised accordingly.
*Monitor the return of critical reports requested from EHO's, Nursing Homes and other agencies to ensure that Health Protection action is taken in an efficient and timely manner.
*Audit/validate data quality to highlight data errors and assist in audits to improve the provision of the service.
*Provide support to the immunisation leads in the targeting of low immunisation uptake.
*Assist other Health Protection staff in the management and investigation of incidents/outbreaks.
*Create Standard Operating Procedures for work areas.
*Liaise with the Duty Officer and information/Surveillance staff to acquire relevant statistical reports from other surveillance systems.
*Maintain comprehensive filing systems, including manual and electronic files, in accordance with PHA policy.
*Ensure the timely handling and distribution of mail, including electronic mail.
*Participate in agreed professional development activities and attend appropriate training in relation to Health Protection to fulfil the requirements of the post.
It is essential that interested candidates meet the following criteria -
*GCSE English and Mathematics AND 2 'A' Levels AND 2 years relevant experience in an office environment
*3 years relevant experience in an office environment.
*Experience in maintaining and interrogating databases and information systems.
*Extensive experience in Microsoft Office Suite - particularly Excel / Access
*Proficient communication skills.
*The ability to work as part of a team.
*An understanding of the functions of Health Protection and infectious diseases terminology.
*Able to prioritise.
*Ability to deliver on deadlines.
*Able to work within a rapidly changing environment.
*Ability to self-manage.
*Excellent verbal communication skills.
*Ability to maintain accurate records.
*Excellent written communication skills.
*Have a knowledge and understanding of the current issues that face health protection.
Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Organisation which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
