If In Doubt, Rent a Billboard

If In Doubt, Rent a Billboard

In the increasingly competitive job world sometimes it pays to stand out. A standard CV doesn’t always cut it in among potentially hundreds of others up for the same role…cue more and more unique attempts from jobseekers to draw the attention of prospective employers.

You’ve all likely seen this week’s latest attempt by 24 year old Adam Pacitti – it’s been hard to miss, all over Facebook, Twitter and even the UK newspapers. Having applied for 250 jobs in the past three months, the media production graduate spent his last £500 purchasing a billboard ad in London's Shoreditch area plugging his video appeal for a job on employadam.com.

Does it work? Well that remains to be seen…as yet Adam hasn’t received any firm offers but points out that the messages and support he’s received have been overwhelming.

Pacitti isn’t the first to go down this route – back in May 2011 we had ‘Jobless Paddy’ aka Féilim Mac An Iomaire, an unemployed Irish graduate who spent £1,745 on a billboard containing a picture of himself with a suitcase facing a number of famous landmarks from Sydney, London and New York with the message: "Save me from emigration."

The stunt worked on this occasion, earning the 26-year-old more than 20 job interviews and five job offers, before finally joining bookmaker Paddy Power as a Communication Executive.
